Denver - Day 1

On our first morning in Denver, we got to have coffee and breakfast with my cousin and her family and then went to Red Rocks Amphitheater. We had heard that people like to work out there but didn't realize the extent to which it was utilized. There were many groups running up and down the amphitheater with all sorts of fitness equipment, including weights and kettlebells. We walked up and down part of it but skipped the intensive workout. We both think it would be cool to see a concert here. See picture below.

Next we had lunch at the Buckhorn Exchange. It is the first establishment to receive a liquor license in the state and has been opened in 1863. We ordered buffalo burgers for lunch along with homemade chips and bean soup. It was delicious and very cool to be in such an old restaurant. See the picture with the animals on the wall from here below.

We next drove downtown to explore. We parked and walked down the 16th Street Mall to check out the town. It was quite busy with lots of business people out walking to get lunch. We walked through the Brown Palace which is the 2nd oldest hotel in Denver.

We then drove to Lodo which is the lower district in downtown that was the original downtown area. We walked around the newly renovated Union Station and had a beer from Wynkoop Brewery, the first brewery in Denver. Then we headed back to my cousins house for a great dinner and conversation. We can't wait for day 2 of Denver!

  1. Nice day, love the amphitheater shot. Looks like a cool place for a show as long as the weather holds out. I suspect Denver can get a bit warm. What a culture shock I bet from the tranquility of the Grand Canyon nature to a downtown metropolis mall full of 8 to fivers. As usual food and beverage was a priority! I'll pass on the Buffalo Burger though. I've had it and found it tough with no discernable difference in taste. Hope your experience faired better. Be Safe
